Synovus names John Smarge to Gulf Coast advisory board

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 18, 2024 — Synovus has appointed John Smarge to its Gulf Coast advisory board. A Naples, Florida, resident, Smarge is the retired president of Ray the Mover, a North American Van Lines company.

“John’s strong ties to Naples and the Gulf Coast business community will greatly benefit our Synovus advisory board,” said Sean Simpson, Central Florida division CEO for Synovus. “His four decades of expertise in entrepreneurship and business will help us support our clients in reaching their full potential.”

Smarge retired after 42 years as president of Ray the Mover, a full-service moving and storage company serving Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties. He is a founding board member and fund development chair for Haiti National Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Initiative (HANWASH), a program that brings clean water and satisfactory sanitation to Haiti.

Smarge has been active for more than 40 years with The Rotary Club of Naples and Rotary International. He is the president-elect of the Forum Club of Southwest Florida, and he has served on the boards of several Naples-area organizations.
