We’re discontinuing our Synovus Connections® Visa® Prepaid Card services.
After careful consideration, we are no longer offering our Synovus Connections® Visa® Prepaid Card service. We understand that this change will have an impact on your banking experience, and we’re committed to supporting you during this transition. Our team is available to help you explore alternative banking solutions that may meet your needs. If you have questions or wish to discuss your options, please stop by your local branch or call 888-SYNOVUS (796-6887) for additional information.
Important dates and action you need to take now are below.
IMPORTANT DATES:
March 31, 2025
The last day to make a deposit on the Connections card. Card accounts with a zero balance will be closed automatically. Please note any companion cards will be closed as well.
April 30, 2025
All deposits including direct deposit, in-branch deposit, tax refunds, or third-party deposits will be declined by the card processor.
May 31, 2025
The last day to make purchases or receive funds immediately by withdrawing the remaining balance at a Synovus branch or ATM.
June 1, 2025
All transactions will begin to be declined. Remaining account balance may only be requested at a Synovus branch or by calling 888-SYNOVUS (796-6887). Please allow for up to 61 days to process the request and receive your funds. Additional information regarding withdrawal of your remaining balance can be found below.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW:
- Stop adding funds to your card. The last day to make a deposit to your card will be March 31, 2025. If you have your paycheck, social security, government benefits, tax refund or other income loaded to your account using direct deposit, you should contact your employer, government office, or payor directly to stop or redirect any direct deposits immediately.
IMPORTANT: Timing and processes for changes to direct deposits vary from payors and across financial institutions and can take several weeks (or longer) to implement request so it’s important to start the process now. - Make purchases or withdraw your remaining balance. You have until May 31, 2025 to spend down or withdraw any remaining balances using the following options:
- Use your card wherever Visa is accepted to shop.
- Visit your local Synovus branch to withdraw balances and receive your funds immediately.
- Call 888-888-SYNOVUS (796-6887) to process your request and receive your funds via mail.
- Get cash at ATMs where the Interlink, Plus or NYCE symbols are displayed. If you use a non-Synovus ATM, you will be charged a fee by Synovus and may be charged a fee by the ATM owner. Synovus will not charge you a fee to make withdrawals at non-Synovus Bank branches, but the other bank may impose a fee.
IMPORTANT: Starting June 1, 2025, the primary cardholder must request the remaining account balance by presenting proper identification at a Synovus branch or by calling 888-SYNOVUS (796-6887). Please allow for up to 61 days to process your request and receive your funds. Holds may apply for pending transactions. After a period of inactivity defined by your state guidelines, account balances are considered abandoned property, and we’ll be required by law to turn over your remaining funds to the state.
- Update your payment method. If you have saved your prepaid card information to make payments at merchants or providers online, you will need to update your payment method before June 1, 2025 when transactions will begin to be declined.
- Notify companion card holders. If you have opened a companion card(s), all changes and dates apply to companion cards as well. Please advise any active users of companion cards associated with your account of the important dates, especially as it relates to direct deposits.
- Destroy your card. Once you have confirmed there will be no more deposits made to your card and all payment/transactions have posted, you should destroy your card.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to implement this change. Thank you for choosing Synovus and giving us the opportunity to meet your banking needs.
