Synovus Names Heath Schondelmayer West Central Georgia and East Alabama Division CEO
COLUMBUS, GA., May 12, 2022 — Synovus Bank today announced the appointment of Heath Schondelmayer as CEO of its West Central Georgia and East Alabama Division, effective June 1, 2022. Schondelmayer will continue to serve as Columbus market executive, a role he has held since January 2017. Schondelmayer succeeds Mark Lane, who will retire May 31 after 32 years with Synovus, including 10 as a division CEO. Lane will remain on Synovus’ Columbus Advisory Board following his retirement.

Schondelmayer joined Synovus in 1997 and has nearly 25 years of banking experience, including commercial lending, private wealth management, new business development, and team building. He currently serves on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club, The Development Authority, Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Brookstone School, and St. Francis Emory Healthcare. He has also provided strong leadership to the Columbus 2025 initiative, which is committed to growth and economic prosperity for the entire Columbus region. Schondelmayer is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in finance, received his MBA from Columbus State University, and graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University.
