Strong women raise strong women. When Jacquese Hill reflects on who’s impacted her life the most, her immediate answer is her mother.

“No matter what was going on, good or bad, she pushed me to learn from my mistakes and come back bigger and better. My mom told me every day just how much she loved me, admired me, and how proud she was of me.”

In addition to her mother, Jacquese uses Black History Month to reflect on those who inspired her to turn obstacles into opportunities for growth.

“There are so many great men and women that have inspired my life, but I reflect on a conversation back in 2009 with Joseph Lowery.” 

“In speaking with him at a conference, he shared wisdom that ‘shook’ my soul and added color to the many stories my parents shared with me growing up in Birmingham, Alabama. When my son was only three years old, he had a chance to meet Mr. Lowery, who looked at him and said, ‘Son you are destined for greatness, and you are the reason WHY I fight how I fight.’ To hear him say this to a stranger with such sincerity and passion was so inspiring. The inspiration of love and compassion is why we all must fight to ensure all people are treated fairly.”

That inspiration carries over to Jacquese’s desire to help make a path for others.

“This experience inspires me not only to fight for my son to have the same opportunity as others, but to also advocate for anyone who crosses my path, who has ambition, drive, or a twinkle in their eye to WIN!”

“I have met many great people who inspire me personally and professionally. Their acts of kindness and sacrifice push me to always do my very best and use my gifts to help someone else along the way.”

That’s part of the power in finding your purpose, Jacquese shares. To help others find their purpose in life and to live intentionally and openly, she recommends starting with a basic building block: yourself, and the book “You Owe You: Ignite Your Power, Your Purpose and Your Why” by Eric Thomas.

For others who may seek to inspire or to be inspired, Jacquese encourages others with the following pearls of wisdom:

  • Be a blessing to others, and you will be blessed.
  • Find what motivates you to be your best — when you have a WHY it will push you to WIN.
  • Never let anyone allow the color of your skin to limit your dreams — DREAM BIG and knock down walls to make way for others.
